"Bass and Breaks: Podcast"
The show is made up of two distinct thirty minute sections, the six track showcase and the thirty minute mix.
The ‘showcase’ highlights six of the best underground dance music tracks, expect to hear everything from breaks to electro and from dubstep to drum and bass. If its hot you will hear it here first. We also get the odd DJ and producer on the phone. Recently we have had Aquasky, Grooverider, Russ Chimes, Andy C and Hyrbid having a chat to us.
Also we go in the mix with either a mix from myself or a great guest DJ. Over the last year there have been guest mixes from some of the key people in this music scene including Aquasky, Sub Focus and High Rankin as well as some upcoming DJs too.
Mike Swaine has been DJing for 9 years and has gone from playing to a crowd of one (his dog Harry) to 1000’s of people, playing alongside some of the biggest names in the dance scene (Pendulum, Chase and Status, MistaJam, Judge Jules just to name a few).
His versatility as a DJ means you could hear sonic soundscapes of breakbeat, electro, dubstep, drum & bass as well as mashups of indie rock, urban joints and fresh from the valley cheddar pop. His sets are unique, high octane and adrenaline fuelled… though that's not to say that he can’t do an awe-inspiring warm-up set too.
Outside of DJing Mike is a media junkie. Whilst studying Radio Production at Bournemouth University, Mike became being involved in two student radio stations, Nerve Radio and Xpression Fm and during his time at both these stations picked up a Bronze student radio award, as well as receiving two nominations.
With this experience under his belt Mike secured a weekly radio show at Fire Radio, and for the last two years has hosted "Bass and Breaks" showcasing the hottest music in the underground dance music scene. This has seen him hang out with and interview the likes of DJ Hype, Hyrbid, Eddie Temple Morris, Soul of Man… plus loads of others who dropped in to do guest mixes.
Mikes show has been recognised as one of the top Breaks and Drum & Bass shows in the country and was recently nominated at International Breakbeat Awards (Breakspoll) where he narrowly missed out to the DJs that he used to buy his records from at University.
Since graduating in July 2009, Mike has been working at the forefront of music world as a music plugger for the UK’s leading digital club promotions company, DigiDJ. He has worked on projects have ranged from Ellie Goulding and Cheryl Cole to 50 Cent and Wheezer and when Mike is not in the office keeping up-to-date with all things in radio and clubland, he is often out visiting DJs at the clubs and radio stations so that he can find out first hand what the general public are listening to.
In 2010 Mike plans to get back in the studio and create some bass driven, snare fuelled breaks and dubstep. Leaving the studio, plans are underway to take Bass and Breaks into the clubs, with a unique visual and auditory experience. Outside of the music scene, Mike has plans to get his coastal skipper licence, so be prepared for some sub harmonic waves coming from the ocean as the bass will be pumping from the high seas.
The Bass and Breaks clubnight is still in the concept phase at the moment, however I am looking to launch in the autumn of this year.
I would like to include live electronic bands, upcoming DJs and emerging talent. If you think you have got it, send me a demo to mike@bassandbreaks.com.
DJs please no longer than 30 minute demos and bands, please send me mp3s as I dont like myspace (it annoys me).
If you would like to book me (as in Mike Swaine) to DJ at your night, please get in contact with Kelly at DigiDJ. Her email address is and she will help you out.
Coming soon, a few of my own creations, mash-ups, mixes etc.
I will insert the links to the tracks at a later date as this will change quite regularly.
Are you an artist or producer and would like to send me a track, send it over to
I am looking further down the line to set up a record label, however this is a bit of a way off.
However if you are looking for a music plugger to promote your record, drop me a line.
